DAYMOTHS
St. Paul indie-pop duo Daymoths have had a busy year touring in support of their debut album Back In Time, which was recorded at Tiger Tiger Studios by Dove Foster-Dewy, mixed at Old Blackberry Way by Neil Weir, and mastered at Magneto Mastering by Dave Gardner. The album landed a spot on the City Pages Best Minnesota Albums of 2011 runner-up list and was added at over two dozen CMJ-reporting radio stations, and which earned them a number of radio in-studios, including one at Radio K. The band has spent the past six weeks writing new songs for their follow-up release and have released a new video and mp3 for “Thank You”, the third single from their debut album Back In Time, as they hit the road for their summer tour with their new material before they go into the studio this fall.

Daymoths is comprised of Emily Dantuma (vocals/keyboards) and Ollie Dodge (drums/vocals). Dantuma and Dodge began making music together in the early 00’s in the band Vox Vermillion, which was signed to Atmosphere’s Women Records. Subsequent projects have found the married couple stretching out into experimental, noise rock, and even classical territory (Dantuma is also a classically-trained cellist and performs Bach Suites and original compositions as String Bikini) before focusing their collective energies into the measured and spacious sounds of Daymoths. This most recent endeavor in their careers has brought them to a stripped down sound – easy on the ears, but with hints of the edgy, experimental perspectives these two have become known for in larger bands throughout the past decade as members of Vox Vermillion, Company Inc., and Mr. Mustachio. Sentimental but not overly fluffed or cheesed out, solid groovable beats hold down driving piano riffs and meaty organ tones while Dantuma’s sweet serenade becomes a siren’s wail at just the right moment.
