BIOGRAPHY
In a 130 year-old house in a small town near Minneapolis, Jenny Dalton is working on her next full-length project, engineering and producing an album that features ethereal vocals and haunting harmonies, melding a dramatic palate of instruments with the organic feel of her piano and new-found love, the autoharp. The songs are brought to life with the help of long-time collaborators and former members of Cloud Cult, Dan Greenwood on drums and Deborah Copperud on cello. Jenny Dalton taught herself to play piano and has been writing songs since she was 8 years old. Influenced by the minor chords of alternative-pop favorites like The Smiths and Kate Bush, Dalton weaves piano, autoharp and percussion in an original style, and blends words and sound into an arrestingly introspective soundscape with her haunting, soaring soprano. She has independently released 2 full-length albums, 2 remix albums with contributions from an international assortment of ambient-pop and electro artists, a digital EP, and a single. Dalton is currently producing her third full-length album in her home studio.
Jenny Dalton’s releases have been praised by Absolute Punk, Ultimate Guitar, Minneapolis City Pages, Minneapolis Fucking Rocks, The Current, Twin Cities Daily Planet, Vita.mn, Curve Magazine, Amplifier Magazine, Rift Magazine, L’etoile Magazine, Revolt Media, and many more. An episode of MTV‘s True Life featured “Cadence vs. Gore & Shoenbrunn” from the album Carbon Lily Remixes, and Dalton’s Blood Folk EP made #6 on Parx-E Magazine‘s year-end best-of list for “Best EP”. Jenny Dalton’s live show has evolved to include autoharp-based songs and a juggling of keys with percussion – catch Dalton performing solo on tour throughout the summer and fall, and look for the release of her upcoming full-length later this year.
