Sacramento News & Review previews Tomten show

Tomten are in Davis tonight at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen – Sacramento News & Review picks the show as one of the best of the week:

The Pacific Northwest is buzzing over Tomten, a still decently under-the-radar trio based in Seattle. With serious praise from public radio station KEXP, expect the band to move past playing cheap shows on small restaurant patios in the future. And obviously, act now. Tomten’s brand of baroque pop is playful and charming, arranged on dreamy organ, analogue synth and fuzzy guitar. You hear the ’60s Britpop influence, as well as singer-keyboardist Brian Noyeswatkins’ upbringing in sunny, ocean-breezed Carmel. Airy sweetness gets a little more psychedelic heft with Tomten’s latest work, along with achingly beautiful strings.

Folk World reviews Levi Parham’s new release ‘Avalon Drive’

Folk World reviews Levi Parham‘s new release Avalon Drive:

Levi Parham sends us a six track promo-EP called Avalon Drive. Rocking the stars away, he brings a strong mixture of Americana, bluegrass and rock with occasionally some nice raw edges. Something happens on this EP. Parham has a nice, strong voice and I like the edgy way he writes, sings and arranges his compositions. Parham shows that he has all the ingredients to become a major name in the more underground sounding Americana-Rock styled music. Intriguing and definitely worth a listen at his webpage.

Music for the intellectual masses, their debut full-length album Wizards (Hibernator Gigs) is unleashed today and it is an album for dreamers based off of the eclectic perception of reality and escapist means from true reality. ALBUM PREMIERE: Overblown premieres Weird Mob’s debut album ‘Wizards’

Overblown premieres Weird Mob‘s debut album Wizards, with thoughts from the band on each track. Wizards is out on 4/21 on Hibernator Gigs Records.

Weird Mob is certainly an apt moniker for this Charlotte, Virginia synth pop group that seamlessly combines prog, new wave, electro pop, and a touch of post punk. Theirs is an eclectic, and definitely weird, mix, at times odd, at times lighthearted, always catchy.
