Verbicide Magazine premieres Apollo Wild’s single “Shaky Knees”

Verbicide Magazine premieres “Shaky Knees,” the new single from Nashville’s Apollo Wild:

The whole song is about connecting to and loving your past, but not allowing that to keep you from jumping headlong into your future. It’s a tale of fear, anxiety, nostalgia, but also of exploration, understanding, growth, and ultimately, of conquering. I suppose that, in short, “Shaky Knees” is my love ballad to Texas, to youth, to family, and to the future.

Adobe & Teardrops premieres Laura Oden’s single “Try Not To Cry”

lauraoden_studio_bymikeconti

Adobe & Teardrops premieres Laura Oden’s single “Try Not To Cry”:

Alaska-based Laura Oden has previewed her upcoming album with ‘Try Not to Cry.’ Oden’s remarkable vocal performance makes this song, an attempt to grapple with a crushing loss, an arresting experience. Oden brushes against the confines of folk music and weaves jazz-like intervals into her delivery. This meditation is sure to stay with you after the last note fades and it has me excited for the full album.

Thanks to Vents Magazine for premiering the opening track off Anchorage, AK singer-songwriter Laura Oden’s forthcoming album Peel Back Another Layer, out January 6th on CD/DL:

The first single and opening track, ‘The Best Things In Life,’ was written as the closing song for a Creative Placemaking event in Anchorage called The Urban Conflux, conceived of and produced by Laura Oden. This was a large-scale experience in which 30 events were planned all over town and the public was invited to join, only to be interrupted mid-event by musicians who lead participants of all 30 events to town square park for a two-hour retelling of the history of Anchorage through original music, spoken word and movement. ‘The Best Things In Life’ was the finale, performed on a cloudless 70 degree day to hundreds of residents and visitors.

For those sad that Radiation City played their last show in December, be happy that former drummer Randy Bemrose has released a solo album, I Want To Be Your B, under the alias Because. This album has allowed the talented, local artist to fully explore an experimental sound on his own. And that new path is working, because the nine songs on this album are golden.

Eleven PDX Magazine reviews the debut album from Because (Randy Bemrose of Radiation City), out now on CD/LP/DL from Plume Records.

RVA Magazine previews Illiterate Light show

illiteratelight_bybrandysomers

RVA Magazine recommends tonight’s Illiterate Light show at The Camel!

RVA shows you must see this week:

The Harrisonburg-based duo has been grabbing attention lately with their high-energy live performances, and recent EP Earthworm certainly showcases some powerful songwriting, excellent instrumental technique, and memorably strong vocal harmonies. This band is sure to bring a smile to your face, and you should definitely give them the opportunity to do so!

Portland Mercury reviews Because LP

Portland Mercury on the debut album from Because (Randy Bemrose of Radiation City), out now on Plume Records:

These nine painstakingly crafted pop songs are enjoyably all over the place; the first four alone draw from Kinks-esque ’60s pop, ’70s breakbeat funk, bossa nova, and the textural minimalism of a Sparklehorse ballad—in fact, Because’s unifying aesthetic is this same knack for the warm, tastefully experimental production of Sparklehorse pop polyglot Mark Linkous. Most of I Want to Be Your B grooves a lot harder than Sparklehorse ever did, though, and a grab bag of psychedelia colors the record’s funnest moments…. — NATHAN TUCKER

The Boot premieres Matt Jordan’s new single “Chicago”

mattjordan_chicago1

The Boot is premiering “Chicago,” the new single from fast-rising Nashville/Eureka country singer-songwriter Matt Jordan:

A mid-tempo country-rock song, “Chicago” is wistful and brooding, with lyrics that paint a vivid picture: “Fall growing in with the winter breeze / Hands in my pocket on a crowded street / Thinking about when your fingers locked in mine / I wander by the bay where the waves hit the wall / Remember that summer just before the fall / When everything was going great ’til you said goodbye.” The chorus of “Chicago” adds to the tune’s melancholy feel, as Jordan confesses, “I hear the skyline lights are awful pretty / But I can’t find the good in nothing since I let you go / I’m just a wishful-thinking boy stuck in the city / Talking to your ghost / Dying in Chicago.”

Atwood Magazine premieres “Lock-Out Time,” first single from Because (Radiation City’s Randy Bemrose)

Atwood Magazine premieres “Lock-Out Time,” the first single off debut album I Want To Be Your B from Because:

“Because (Randy Bemrose of Radiation City) pushes us to dig into our imaginative cores on debut single ‘Lock-Out Time,’ a technicolor tapestry of thought & sound. (via Plume Records)”

For the Rabbits features “Dusk” by Magic Magic Roses

Thanks to For The Rabbits for including “Dusk” by Magic Magic Roses (Plume Records) in this week’s feature!

Building around a gentle acoustic-strum and rattling marching drum; Dusk is a wash of hazy, Autumnal sunshine, rich with gentle melancholy. Like fellow modern Americana-acts Hurray For The Riff Raff or Cicada Rhythm, Magic Magic Rose manage to create something that’s at once nostalgic and fresh, and show once again that this is a genre with plenty left to say.

Belwood Music reviews Magic Magic Roses’ single “Dusk”

Thanks to Belwood Music for the lovely review of “Dusk,” title track of the new album from Magic Magic Roses out December 2nd from Seattle’s Plume Records:

The latest song from San Francisco band Magic Magic Roses surrounds itself with a kind of mystical air of beauty, like a fine veil of mist clinging on in the early morning haze. ‘Dusk’, the title (and closing) track from their upcoming third album out 2nd December, will be sure to appeal to fans of such equally gorgeous and ethereal folk acts as The Staves and First Aid Kit. The sparse and wistful arrangement and the warm layered harmonies create a soothing lullaby to lure you away into a peaceful, dreamlike trance. The song’s aesthetic whispers to you pastoral tales of strolling through golden fields under amber sunsets, and of crackling fires on cold autumn nights. It’s the kind of music that you can get lost in and simply disappear for a while in some better place.

Belwood Music features Brumby’s “Leave a Light On” as a Top Track

Belwood Music picks BRUMBY’s “Leave a Light On” as a Top Track:

The synth-laden Americana vibe, the anthemic chorus and the bright guitar melodies make this song essential listening for fans of Bear’s Den and The War On Drugs. “Leave a Light On” makes the perfect soundtrack for an introspective, late night drive or equally for carefree summer cruising. Whichever way you’re headed, whatever path you follow, the new single from BRUMBY is all the company you need.
