Tour Dates: Mesiko

Mesiko are releasing their debut full-length Solar Door on November 9th – check out the details at Pledge Music and see their masterful interrogation video, starring Michael Shannon.

MESIKO’s first full-length studio album, Solar Door, out on November 9th, is the outcome of the collective accomplishment of vigorous songwriting and a dedicated production team who set out to make something truly special. Produced by Sam Cohen (Yellowbirds, Apollo Sunshine) and engineered by Kevin Ratterman (Jim James, Andrew Bird, My Morning Jacket, Maserati) at his studio, LaLaLand, and mastered by Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Kanye West, Cheap Trick), the album features collaborations with Sam Cohen, Kevin Ratterman, Annie Nero, Roadie Rodahaffer and Brian Schreck. Singer/guitarist Raquel Bell, guitarist David Marshall and drummer Ray Rizzo (co-founder of Louisville’s Motherlodge Festival who has lent his skills as a drummer to artists like Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Ben Folds) started playing together in late 2011. Mesiko has performed all over Brooklyn and Manhattan, at The Lebowski Fest in Louisville and Montreal’s Jazz Fest, and has played on bills with Jolie Holland, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Corporal, Mucca Pazza, Dawn Landes, Trixie Whitley and Catherine Irwin. Mesiko often hosts live musical events for the community at the People’s Garden in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and has made multiple appearances at Motherlodge Festival.

Weekly Volcano previews Molybden show

Weekly Volcano previews Molybden’s show in Olympia at Rainy Day Records:

Musically, Woman Who Left Behind is lushly spare, and Tess Seipp’s tremulous, silky voice wraps around the four tracks like a nice hemp sandal. Growing up 62 miles from the Mexican border in the Chihuahuan Desert city of Marfa, Texas (known for its Minimalist art and the 2006 filmings of both No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood) and coming of age selling vinyl in Pacific Northwest record stores, Seipp, who is also known as Molybden, tells tales of the homeland and ponders the world around her, pulling together influences from Elliott Smith and Patti Smith to Charlie Feathers and Rosanne Cash, as well as paying homage to poet Edna St. Vincent Millay.
