My Old Kentucky Blog premieres “Dusk” by Magic Magic Roses

My Old Kentucky Blog premieres the new single from Magic Magic Roses — listen to “Dusk” below, the title track from their forthcoming album, out next month on Plume Records:

“Sonically, it would be hard not to bring up comparisons to Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval’s static vocal delivery. The song resonates quickly and melds well with the autumnal winds and colors outside your window.”

The Bluegrass Situation premieres “Way Out” music video from John Calvin Abney

John Calvin Abney premieres the visuals for “Way Out” from his new album Far Cries and Close Calls today on The Bluegrass Situation:

I was…thinking about friends and family and strangers and acquaintances that had ventured so far into the dark that they couldn’t find their way to any source of light. I started to write about times that led me in and out of the mire. I had lost some people that were important to me, love and lack thereof had sent me reeling, and this song appeared.

Brumby premieres new single “Leave a Light On” on GroundSounds

BRUMBY returns with the warm, synth-laced single “Leave A Light On,” gliding through a disarming performance, equal parts forlorn and hopeful, wielding chiming guitars and cathedral-sized chants.

“It’s always exciting releasing new music. But for us, there is something special about this release,” says Oliver Tingey, frontman for Brumby. “We have been holding back for two years, writing and tossing dozens of songs. The result is ‘Leave A Light On’ and a slew of forthcoming singles that we are really proud of. We cannot wait to share them with our fans.”

The long-awaited single “Leave A Light On” premieres today on GroundSounds!

Surviving the Golden Age reviews SIRES’ new album ‘Soul For Sale’

SIRES

Truthfully, there’s something special here…If SIRES doesn’t become the next big thing, I’d be a bit disappointed. For all those looking for a refreshing listen –a series of emotional lines mixed with a variety of inspired alt rock melodies –look no further. Few albums are so universally palatable and yet equally fun to listen to. I’m sold, on Soul for Sale.

Surviving the Golden Age wrote a fantastic review of SIRES new album ‘Soul For Sale,’ out now on Station 1 Records.

Little Village Magazine reviews SIRES album

10-28_sires_littlevillagemag

“If SIRES did sell their soul for this rock and roll, they got their money’s worth. They’ve crafted an album packed with smart, bright classic hooks as well as dark, lusty bombastic rhythms: an impressive juxtaposition”

Thanks to Little Village Mag for the great review of SIRES’ new album Soul For Sale, out this Friday on Station 1 Records!

Magic Magic Roses premiere first single “In Time” with Vents Magazine

Hear the beautiful new track “In Time,” the first single off Dusk, the forthcoming album from San Francisco dreamy folk band Magic Magic Roses due out at the end of the year on Seattle’s Plume Records:

I started writing ‘In Time’ on a plane to Hawaii, and much of the song takes its cue from being there and searching for shells on the beach. It’s a funny activity, because you are searching and searching and sometimes you don’t find anything, and sometimes you think you’ve found something spectacular, and then you take it home and you realize it’s just a normal rock or something. You have to trust that the ocean will bring you some wonderful treasure someday. I was thinking about this process as a metaphor for relationships…the song again relates to the idea of reckoning – recognizing when something isn’t right and moving on…throwing it back in the ocean!

SIRES premiere “My Everything” music video with The Vinyl District

10-28_sires_thevinyldistrict

Head over to The Vinyl District to watch the new music video from SIRES for “My Everything,” a track about destructive obsession—obsession with image, people, and perfection to the point where anything less than perfect violates your looking glass self. “My Everything” is off the forthcoming album Soul For Sale, out October 21st on Station 1 Records:

With a booming drum beat that goes back to early rock, covered by overlaid choruses and harp strings, the new track from the Iowa band SIRES carries legacy in its sound, even as its big production video looks at something more modern—cyber bullying and its effects…the band isn’t long for merely the cornfields of central Iowa.

DSM Shows features Cubits new single “Oh Well That Ends Well”

10-28_cubits_dsmshows

“The subtle electronic production that starts and builds underneath the track lifts the whole song into transitory realms where the distant guitar melodies collect and swirl like low-hanging fog.”

This Year In Music reviews SIRES’ single “She’s Into Me”

10-28_sires_thisyearinmusic

Massive…vocals, chugging guitars, pounding drums, a dollop of feedback and doused with a pop sheen…Sires sound like the Holloways if they’d only…listened to The Beatles and The Datsuns for a decade and decided to give it another go. ‘She’s into Me’ is a fun romp through heartache and redemption.

Thanks to This Year In Music for the great review of SIRES lead single “She’s Into Me” from their forthcoming full-length Soul For Sale, out on 10/21 on Station 1 Records!

Creative Loafing Tampa previews PLEASURES’ show

Pleasures_standing

Creative Loafing Tampa previews tonight’s PLEASURES homecoming show at Fubar Downtown:

Just like that, Pleasure is back. After a five-week tour that took the greater Bay area psych-rockers through the Sunshine State, up through the midwest and right through the butthole of Texas, frontwoman Katherine Kelly & co. return to the ‘Burg (who cares what the cool kids call it) for a homecoming show that also serves to celebrate the release of their 2016 LP, Fucked Up Dreams Come True, which plays like a variety hour where the devil gets a hold of an MPC while every demented soul he’s been left with in hell fills the figurative studio with strange howling noises all running through a pedal board only an octopod could navigate. The effort is a pure dance party, and it takes all kinds of cajones to go on the road the way Pleasures does, so buy them a shot or three at this rager. Experience that m-fer below.
