SONG PREMIERE: Gold Flake Paint premieres The River Monks’ single “Beasts”

Gold Flake Paint premieres “Beasts,” the first single from The River Monks’ forthcoming full-length Home Is The House, set for release on May 20th!

Oh, America. I miss you even though we’ve never really known each other. I miss you because you’ve always been there, casting spells and shadows over everything I love. I miss you because despite the sheer size and scale of you, it’s really the finer details that matter the most to me. The size of the skies. The wild prairies. The great industrial cities. Roads that run alongside rail tracks for miles and miles and miles. I’m yet to find them myself but I know they are there, just waiting.

I know they are there because bands like The River Monks make songs like “Beasts” – and I can hear it all. In the gorgeous harmonies, the shuffling percussion, that sun-kissed instrumentation that drifts alongside it all like the softest of breezes. It feeds in to everything; giving it a wide-eyed sincerity, a full, beating heart and a sense of optimism that’s all-but inescapable.

Listen to the exclusive premiere of “Beasts” at Gold Flake Paint!

Song Premiere: The Slowdown reveal new track “Right on TV” on Secret Note

Secret Note premieres the new song from The Slowdown, “Right on TV”, off their forthcoming sophomore full-length Digital Gold, out next month on Celebrity Narrators!

The Slowdown’s latest single, “Right on TV” takes the listener through a slow burn groove drawing influence from all over the classic and contemporary spectrum shepherded by the resonant vocals of singer Sam Hoskins. Serge Gainsbourg in his Jen Claude Vannier phase is written all over this track with a gritty, funky, spaced out experimental goodness. As if Bowie and Iggy were getting loaded on the town nightclubbing in a Daft Punk Studio 54.

New song: Molybden – “Woman Who Left Behind” on The Joy of Violent Movement

Molybden’s beautiful new song “Woman Who Left Behind” is up over at The Joy of Violent Movement:

The desert city of Marfa, TX is 62 miles from the Mexican border, and the city has developed a reputation for it’s minimalist art scene, and was interestingly enough, where most of the most disturbing sequences of both No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood were shot.

The Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter Tess Seipp, who writes, records and performs under the moniker of Molybden was raised in Marfa, TX and in some way, the locale has heavily influenced her work as you’ll hear on the hauntingly sparse and eerily beautiful “Woman Who Left Behind,” which will appear on Seipp’s four song 7 inch Woman Who Left Behind slated for a February 25 release through Berniece Rode Records.

As you listen to the track, you can tell that it was recorded on analog tape, as it has a warm, dustiness of old analog complete with it’s imperfections and creative techniques to create certain effects — e.g., to create the reverb on the backing vocals were captured by having Seipp sing into the crevices of the back of a piano in the studio during the backing vocal tracks.

Check it out here!

The 405 debuts new Borrowed Beams of Light single “Songbird Bouquet”

The 2nd single from Borrowed Beams of Light’s forthcoming album On The Wings Of A Bug is up over at The 405 – check out “Songbird Bouquet”!

Melding ominous wedding bell chimes with slick harmonies, ‘Songbird Bouquet’ is a delectable marriage of pop and rock…It’s a delightful mixture of instruments, and is a bit like they’ve tamed the atmospheric indie-rock of Grizzly Bear into a big, huggable teddy.

Kick Kick Snare premieres Borrowed Beams of Light single “On The Wings Of A Bug”

Kick Kick Snare premieres the title track from Borrowed Beams of Lights forthcoming album On The Wings Of A Bug!

On The Wings Of A Bug is a three minute burst of glittering indie pop, ushered along by driving guitars, big harmonies and witty lyrics. It feels more mature than past releases, but in the sense that the songwriter has experienced more. The youthful bounce and well rounded hooks are still present in abundance, but they feel more calculated and well traveled. The track showcases a strong tendency towards Fleetwood Mac and will easily appeal to fans of the Elephant Six Collective.

The Peculiar Pretzelmen premiere “John The Revelator” on Popa’s Tunes!

The Peculiar Pretzelmen premiere their version of blues staple “John The Revelator”, which “takes shape amidst a stormy build, with the layered swell of theremin, electric mandola, and moody baritone sax punctuated with expectant gongs and torn open by the chillingly rabid call and sweetly echoing response that imbue the prophet’s declaration with terror and excitement.”

The Peculiar Pretzelmen lurk in the shadows emitting eerie sounds and spectral lights luring the curious and adventurous down dark alleys and untrodden lanes to flashy Cabaret’s and conspiratle Pubs. Whispers from unseen corners rise to a claterous chant Deeper, Darker, Weirder. Deeper, Darker, Weirder. Here at Popa’s Tunes world headquaters we are fixated on things Deeper. Darker, Weirder, and The Deacon with his ‘Felix the Cat’ bag of magical intruments and the mysterious M. Incroyable of The Peculiar Pretzelmen have a voodoo spell on us and everything they do gets us dancing like banshees with rubber chickens around ceremonial fires…

The Deli Magazine KC premieres The Peculiar Pretzelmen’s new song “Howling Gale”

The Peculiar Pretzelmen have premiered their new track “Howling Gale” from the forthcoming Gentlemen Scoundrels: Rule Book Volume I EP with The Deli Magazine KC! Michelle Bacon of The Deli describes the song as

a bare bones but vicious three-minute attack that is simultaneously sparse and mammoth. M. Incroyable’s aggressive vocal phrasings tower over his austere banjo riff. The Deacon drives each song with unique percussion, which, according to their bio, is “less drum kit and more spoils of an old man’s work bench.” The chicks and booms of various found objects round out the gritty, in-your-face vibe of the track.

Weird Mob track “Wired In Parallel” in 7 Bit Arcade

Weird Mob

7 Bit Arcade features Weird Mob song “Wired In Parallel” as the lead-off track in its weekly Singles Round-up:

Aptly based on our love of all things quirky, the first pick of this week is Weird Mob which includes a husband and wife librarian duo who sing tales of their out of this world adventures. They make sweet sugar drenched indie pop melodies in this song. The male and female vocals are warm and fun as they regale us with their journey. They have the sweet beep of the electronic keyboard but also have a raucous crash almost like turbulence at different junctures in the song to keep it as a lively tune.
